I chose this selection from the shelf because my son has been studying Africa in his Geography class. He has been reading a biography of Nelson Mandela on his own. I don't know if these really are Nelson Mandela's favorite folktales, but it is a good selection. Some are more modern, while others seem traditional. They are all child appropriate. Some are quite serious, while others are lighthearted. I listened to them on recording, and they are performed by a variety of voice actors, and some have music added. The performers of the stories have donated their time, and the proceeds from the collection go to help treat HIV/AIDS in Africa. This is a good choice for anyone looking for African culture materials for children. (143 p)
